Been in Business Since:

2003 (10 years!)

What Brought you to Austin:

Austin is the most amazing city to work in…it possesses the perfect mix of dedicated wedding vendors, photographers and venues who work together to create the couple’s vision with us and are not afraid to try something new.  Plus, we love our down-to-earth, creative brides who get a kick out of the collaborative design process…the ones who hug get bonus points

What made you decide to go into the field you are in?

Before wedding planning, I worked in all facets of commercial radio…producing community events and large-scale concerts, handling sales and marketing, doing voiceover work and yes, even as an on-air DJ!  I loved being involved in large-scale events and seeing it all come together.  Now, radio is great for your 20′s, but I knew I wanted to own my own business…and that’s how The Simplifiers began in 2003!

What do you love most about what you do?

I love the listening part.  Truly listening to your client’s vision, desires, and even fears and doubts about the wedding planning process. I love numbers and working with budgets.  I love solving puzzles and challenges, either in the logistics of planning the master timeline or choreographing a groom’s entrance on an 8′ tall white stallion horse with a 10-person marching band (yup, that really happened).  And I love it when a plan comes together…seeing the clients having the time of their lives at their wedding, not a care in the world, being the center of attention and myself, fading into the background like an undercover superhero.  THAT’S what I truly love.

Can you describe your facility’s style?

The Simplifiers offices are located in central east Austin, in the Mueller district.  One of the great things that our brides get when they hire The Simplifiers is access to our office space, hosting back-to-back vendor appointments in our conference room, which minimizes them having to run around town meeting DJs in random coffee shops.  This way it’s simple.  We coordinate all vendor meetings for our full service clients and keep the vendor selection process super simple and easy…and not to mention, GREEN!  We also have a resource library and extensive vendor database, giving our brides all the info they need when choosing reputable wedding vendor partners for their team.

What are your specialties?

We specialize in non-traditional weddings…what does that mean?  No cookie cutter weddings allowed.  You won’t see the same wedding done over and over and over again in our portfolio.  We believe that your wedding should be an honest reflection of your combined personalities, style and quirks.  By truly listening and getting to know the client throughout the design process, we hone in on what’s important to them and help them filter out the rest.  Every detail has a purpose, every design element was thoughtfully placed there.  Every dollar in the budget is well invested and respected by the planner.  Plus, I’d like to high-five my team…they are INCREDIBLE at the left-brain side of planning weddings: logistics, timelines, venue site plans, SWOT analysis + risk management…we have a tried and true system for planning kickass weddings, ensuring things feel effortless, simple and carefree for our clients.

Last but not least, every quarter we host the Now What Workshop for newly engaged couples that need a kickstart in their wedding planning process.  It’s such a great opportunity to teach new brides how to set intentions, wrangle their guestlist and create a budget and a gameplan.  We’re getting an overwhelming response  to this workshop and can’t wait to host the next one in late September 2013!

Any funny stories from your time in the wedding industry?

Oh my…too many to recount here.  Wait for the memoir book…to be released before I’m forty!

Is there anything else you would like the NEAWP members to know about you or your company?

I’m thrilled to announce I recently received my CSEP certification (Certified Special Events Professional)…an international certification which only 196 other people hold all across the world.  To be included in this elite group of events professionals is an incredible honor and I’m humbled to call myself a CSEP.  Also, I welcome feedback and open discussion on how to not only raise the bar in the Austin wedding scene but also fully support continuing education through collaboration.  Please don’t hesitate to approach me at a future NEAWP to ask any questions you wish about the business of wedding planning and more.  I love that the Austin market is open to this kind of honest discussion and I believe NEAWP is one of the reasons we are.  Thank you, NEAWP!
